Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) was formed in 2020. This is not your traditional softball league. The league has developed a player-centric model. The game itself has not changed but emphasis is now placed mostly on individual play. Players score points for offensive and pitching stats as well as being the MVPs for each game. Each week, the four players atop the leaderboard become team captains and draft teams for the next week of competition. At the end of the season, the player leading in the standings is crowned Athletes Unlimited Champion. Players salaries are based on the players total points. In 2020 the minimum base salary for the six (6) week season was $10,000. With points earned a player could earn up to $35,000.
In 2025, the AUSL changed it's format to that of a traditional softball league featuring four teams. The four teams will play 24 games across 10 major cities. In 2026 the league will become a city-based league. The existing AU Pro Softball Championship Season has been renamed the AUSL All Star Cup and will follow the conclusion of the AUSL season. This championship will keep the AU's original scoring model to crown an individual champion.
