Nearly 26 million Americans are estimated to have diabetes, affecting 8.3% of the population across all ages, and among these up to 7 million people remain diagnosed. An estimated additional 57 million adults have prediabetes. The Diabetes Initiative focuses on providing patient education on disease state management, lifestyle modifications, medication therapy, and monitoring related to diabetes. Events are held in medical settings or at public venues. Such events include the Diabetes Walk at Soldier Field, glucose screenings and patient education at local pharmacies and hospitals, and Diabetes Alert Day promotion in Chicago's Loop.
