Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive disease affecting over 16% of the U.S. population over the age of 20 and is associated with increased mortality, decreased quality of life, and further medical complications such as dialysis or kidney transplantation. The goal of this initiative is to provide education about the prevention, treatment, and management of CKD and its risk factors.SNPhA participates in the annual Dia del Niño (Day of the Child) Festival, along with other entities such as Walgreens, the UIC Medical Center, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum. Volunteers provide information about CKD in addition to heart disease, diabetes, sexually transmitted infections, and hypertension. SNPhA also participates in the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois Kidney Mobile events at various locations in the Chicagoland area.
