Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society
a. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
As an example of work from a Flash Authoring course, this Design Plan Storyboard models considering the target audience, doing UX testing, and iterating on a solution to meet user needs. Following a comprehensive design and implementation template helped me learn to focus development on meeting the needs of a specific group of users. When developing projects for education, I can use this process to meet curricular goals effectively.
This index of HTML5 and JavaScript demo games I built is run on a PythonAnywhere using a model-view-controller scheme with Jinja. Learning to build websites with code from the bottom up and create interactive web applications gives me the tools and skills I need to create and customize learning with new technology.
b. Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation
Google Sites 101 Academy is a final project I created with a classmate for the Instructional Systems Design course. In this project my group worked together using a combination of Google doc comments and synchronous collaboration. I've applied the same methods of sharing responsibilities and learning insights with students after having experienced it myself working on major project such as this.
In collaboration with an English teacher at my school, we conceived, storyboarded, filmed, and edited Hamlet: The Play Within the Play with a group of students. This cross-curricular project included learning goals from multiple subjects, and was shared with the school community at a fundraising event. Students did all of the work including technical setup and post-production in my computer classes, which tied in with concepts we covered in their individual study projects on multimedia production.
c. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parent, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats
My Interactive Technologies to Enhance Learning Presentation communicates ideas about the topic using Google slides. This presentation software allows group editing and sharing via embed code, which could be used to feature the information on a blog, website, or email.
In order to communicate effectively with parents and supporters of our school, I created the Smith School Facebook page. Using this social media site, I was able to share the responsibility of updating viewers with current events and information. Fellow teachers, students, and administrators of the school contributed their own photos, posts, and videos to the page, resulting in a collage of different viewpoints adding up to a comprehensive picture of goings-on at the school.
d. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.
This EPSS Prototype models the creation of a support system for students to effectively design a course of study. Since the system for researching, selecting, and enrolling in courses designed to meet the requirements of a degree program is left up to the user to navigate, our group saw a need for a support system. This system would aid the user in understanding the process of course selection and designing their own recipe for learning.
In my work as an instructional designer, I helped to research and create a variety of professional development materials as this Tech tutorial on using presentation tools. This mini-course is one of many such web apps, which assist teachers who use our programs. Users are guided through an overview of the subject, with specific applications including video walk-throughs, and leading to a list of further resources to assist in applying the technology to lessons.
