Neighborhood News

REMINDER TO ALL SMITHFIELD NEIGHBORS:

The Smithfield Covenants and Restrictions outline a number of guidelines, including vehicle parking on our narrow streets.

All neighbors are reminded to comply with (Article X, p.24, #6): “Long-term and/or overnight on-street parking of household vehicles is prohibited. Vehicles that cannot be accommodated in garage space or driveway should be parked at the pool parking lot.”

Please be aware that this is particularly important at NIGHT, when emergency and/or police vehicles may need to access our homes, as well as neighbors into their driveways.

Thank you from your ACC members: Jane Brannon, Bob Cross and Dick Mowery.

Director's letter

Hello, Farragut! Summer is here and we are so excited! Parks, programs, playgrounds, pathways and events will fill your summer schedules.

The fun starts with Chalk the Park on Saturday, June 8, and our first outdoor concert at Founders Park is Thursday, June 20. And don’t miss the annual Independence Day Parade on Thursday, July 4. Read more about each of these below.

Tiny Trailblazers (ages 3 to 5) and Park Explorers (ages 6 to 12) are two new programs that introduce kids to Farragut’s parks! The Community Center will also host youth “takeover” events on Mondays and Wednesdays all summer. Visit farragutparksandrec.org to see more June programming.

Finally, please plan to visit one of our beautiful Farragut parks this summer. Options range from our fun adaptive pathway and splash pad at McFee Park to sand volleyball and sports galore at Mayor Bob Leonard Park! We also have the coolest playground around at BlueCross Healthy Place at Town Hall and fishing and fun at Anchor Park. Our magnificent parks are truly an asset to the Town, so be sure to enjoy them this summer!

The Farragut Parks & Rec Department is happy and honored that so many people are taking advantage of our events, programs and parks. We encourage you to get outside and enjoy all that our wonderful community has to offer. Thank you for your support and participation!

Ron Oestreich

Parks & Recreation Director

Become a sidewalk Picasso at Chalk the Park

From 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 8, kids and adults of all ages are invited to McFee Park (917 McFee Road) for Chalk the Park. This free event takes place near the rectangular field and restroom.

Chalk is provided, and yard games and crafts are also part of the fun. Ice cream will be available from 4 Get the Scoop ice cream truck.

Participants are encouraged to register at townoffarragut.org/register. This is weather-dependent event. In case of rain, check Farragut Parks & Rec on Facebook and Instagram for the status of the event.

Enjoy southern tunes at the Bluegrass Summer Solstice concert

Celebrate the longest day of the year with one of Tennessee's oldest musical genres at the Bluegrass Summer Solstice concert.

The music starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Founders Park. This year's lineup includes Brand New Box of Matches and Tim Decker and Tennessee River.

Food trucks and activities for the kids will also be available!

New McFee Park gates discourage nighttime disturbances

New electronic gates have been installed at the entrances to McFee Park. The gates lock automatically each evening at 10 p.m. and reopen automatically at 7 a.m. Vehicles exiting the park after 10 p.m. should approach the gates slowly and they will open automatically.

Cars should exit the park one at a time; gates are only open long enough for one car to exit.

Park users who experience issues with the gates can call a number posted on signage at the gates.

Plan your way around Town with Independence Parade detours

On Thursday, July 4, Kingston Pike from Lendon Welch Way to Federal Boulevard will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to approximately noon.

Detours: north side - Campbell Station Road to Grigsby Chapel Road to Smith Road to Kingston Pike (going west) or Campbell Station Road to Parkside Drive to Lovell Road (going east) and south side - Concord Road to Turkey Creek Road to Virtue Road to Kingston Pike.

For more information about the parade, visit farragutparksandrec.org/parade.
