Operation Creek Grind

Beginning of Operation

CINCAIR deployed 22 Squadron to aid with peace keeping in Northern Sahrani. I was leading my unit of 8 men towards the town of Eponia, North of Carmen, North West of Bagango. Grid 125 053. Our mission was to defeat the RACS forces holding the town and restore the peace. Our gear was standard issue Rangers L85s, a sniper with an L96, A L86 LSW and a few grenade launchers. We were informed that the RACS troops were lightly armed and disorganised.

The Op

After I secured the first camp on the outskirts of the town we spotted the first troops, they were at a distance of just over 300m, and so just out of our SA80 range, however 2 and 3 fired some warning .50 shots from the Jeep mounted .50s. They seemed to get the message and we lost sight of them for a short while. One of my team reported contact on a T-72, the RACS Main Battle Tank. That wasn't in the mission briefing. It must've got the drop on us as one of the Jeeps exploded in fire, killing 3 instantly. From here things went from bad to worst. The troops we'd spotted earlier came around the hill to our North and began firing uppon us. It was undirected fire, designed to keep our heads down. I took a round in the leg but made it to the medical tent and got bandaged up quickly. By now the tank had flanked us from the West and was firing upon squad members. I dont know who got hit. I took another few rounds and passed out for a few minutes. When I awoke there was a soldier next to me, I dont remember who, could've been 2. I checked for a pulse and found one. Right, he's still alive and breathing. He was bleeding badly, but luckily I'm next to a medical tent. I grabbed 2 bandages and a morphine syringe for myself. While bleeding heavily myself I managed to get a control of the other soldiers bleeding for a moment, but when came back with some more bandage it'd started again. Just then I felt a thud in the back and darkness fell like night.

I can hear voices.... they sound foreign....

I see a solder stood above what must be 2.... dont recognise that uniform... he's pointing his weapon at 2's head... It flashes Now its pointed at my face.

Dragon 11 was killed in action in Eponia, North Sahrani, August 6th, 2009.

After the Op

After 11 was KIA, one of the other soldiers under his command got off a radio call to Command. They dispatched 4 Harriers with Air to Ground weapons and bombs and 4 M1A1 Main Battle Tanks. The enemy force in Eponia was totally destroyed.
