Hello people,

Just wondering if you guys have some links to getting 3d people and 2d people ( black outline and realistic photo jpegs ) ?

Can anyone share how the best wat to MAKE 3D People from "scratch"? I have a realistic one that must have cane from some other program. The 3d model has a jpg attached to it? And the jpg is a flattend group on many interlocking triangles with the persons image broken up on to each one of them? I am sure that's not a SU thing? I would like to start making good 3d people with the cheapest/easy to learn program out there, unless there is a way to do it in SU? Which is prefered. Not sure how to map pic or group of pics to a single 3D model?

Thanks,

Matte

People in SU is at best tricky. Most people use something like 3dsmax, maya, blender, zbrush, etc. I hear z-brush is making a stir out there lately.

From the sound of the image map, your model is probably from lowpolygon3d. FormFonts has licensed some vehicles from them, not people, but the method is the same. I believe they are using Image Modeller or PhotoModeller....some photometric modelling software anyway. It involves either putting a person on a rostrum or surrounding them with reference points and shooting about about half a dozen shots from various angles and then using the software to gradually extract a 3D model from this. The 3ds models import into SU surprisingly well. It seems that SU can handle all kinds of complex mapping when imported; it just can't do it from scratch.

The problem with people is that they can't remain absolutely motionless while you walk around them, snapping away; so it's best to use half a dozen cameras and shoot them off simultaneously....that's why I don't do it. :O)

Matt,

It is possible to begin pulling up a person from a circle on the ground. But less polys than in the tutorial would be better. Also, a component library of body parts could be made.

Thanks All for your input,

Assuming I make a 3D person thru catamountain's tutorial or other meathods...How do you past a 360 degree picture(s) of a person to the surface?

You can't. You can do cylindrical UV mapping of fairly simple forms...like a Coke can or putting a label on a wine bottle, but you can't yet do spherical mapping, even though SU can display it. The most I've managed to do is a head. Problems like applying an image to a sleeve that is different from the image that is being applied to the side of the trunk (think person wearing a vest) are almost insoluble.
