7. Use Scenes

To manage the visibility of Tags (formerly called Layers) by using Scenes:

    • Tip: Scenes can be excluded from an animation via a check box in the Scenes palette.

    • Managing scenes and layers Some sage advice by Sages TaffGoch, Jean Lemire and Gaieus on setting up scenes with different visible layers.

    • tent-bb3 is an example by BrianB from 2003 of a slideshow using scenes with different visible Tags - some techniques do not change much over the years:

Set up several Scenes with only the Tags (Layers) and elements you need visible. From Jean Lemire

Create a scene with these settings:

    1. No shadow.

    2. No textures or even hidden line or even wireframe.

    3. No profiles.

    4. No fancy edges.

    5. Turn off as many Tags off as possible - with those Tags containing as much geometry as possible.

Make sure that this scene does not memorize the camera settings - this scene will be used for navigating the model with Orbit, Pan and Zoom. (by not saving the camera setting, whatever your last used camera position was or Scene, you will switch to the speed style options without changing your current camera position.)

Make another scene with the settings that you require for modelling.

Make another scene with the settings that you like for rendering.

Name each scene as you see fit (Navigating, Modelling and Rendering, for example).

Click on the Navigation scene to get where you want. Then click on the required one depending on what you want (Modelling or Rendering).

Tips to Manage Styles

    • Use a plain Style - no shadows, no textures, etc. - on Scenes where you actively do your modeling. Such Scenes can be excluded from an animation via a check box in the Scenes palette.

    • Set up other Scenes with fancy Styles to view progress only.
