A few useful model management videos from the 2008 3D Basecamp sessions and beyond:
Another 2008 3D Basecamp session by Tyson Kartchner went deeper into components.
MasterSketchUp, Matt Donley, goes over using groups and components with the Outliner tool.
Series of books, e-publications, and videos demonstrating an approach to organize a SketchUp model for construction documents geared for homebuilders and architects by architect Dennis Fukai. There is a strong emphasis on using SketchUp's Outliner.

Aidan Chopra's 3D Basecamp 2008 session handout and video.
An introduction to techniques you can use to create well-organized, low-poly, and otherwise-efficient SketchUp files. You'll end up with models that are easier to work with and perform better on your computer, no matter how powerful your hardware is (or isn't).
Daniel Tal is an architect and SketchUp Educator who works with very large SketchUp models. A video teaser from his book, Rendering in SketchUp.

Architect Daniel Tal and engineer Mitchel Stangl, early pioneers in managing very large SketchUp models, cover how they work with AutoCAD models imported into SketchUp.

Mitchel Stangl's 3D Basecamp 2008 session handout and video - featuring many of the techniques listed on this site, including the use of Layers and Outliner.
Back in 2008, SKP files the size Mitchel created were exceptionally large. Since then SketchUp has notably improved modeling handling capabilities, helping even more people to also create similarly large models. But good modeling techniques and organization is shown in this video are still a key to success.
