GreenScreen Effects Part 1

I just bought a video editor called Movie Edit Pro 10. This program was made by a company called MAGIX. This is my first video editor and I was just playing with it in combination with SketchUp, a program to "sketch" in 3D. SketchUp is a very powerful and yet easy to use 3D design program. You can make houses, little models, big buildings or entire cities with SketchUp.

Anyways, one of the things I would like to do with the animations I create with SketchUp is to be able to combine them with other animations or add nice backgrounds. Long story short, here is a test video I put together using a SkethUp animation with "green" background, a wallpaper with the theme of my website, and the "Green Box" effect (Green Screen effect.) The video is in AVI format, I used the DivX codec to compress it. Click here to download it. [Dead link. The original was 10.2 MB AVI. Have a good one.

GreenScreen Effects Part 2

I forgot to mention that I bought Movie Edit Pro 10 at Fry's for $50 USD. The regular price is $99 USD online and retail. I guess I was just lucky when I went to Fry's to buy DVD-Rs and saw it there. I just grabbed it and bought it right a way.

Anyways, I made another video that makes use of the Green Screen effect. This video is 27MB and also uses the DivX codec.

Click on the image for a low-resolution, animated GIF to open in a new tab.] I used three of my models, the L-Shape desk and two versions of my dog Chibi. I might just make a tutorial on this, SketchUpers guide to GreenScreen effect, or something like that .

I just can't believe no one has made anything like this with SketchUp before! Can you imagine the possibilities? Game screens, video presentations and demos, walkthroughs with anotations and subtitles, and the list keeps going.

GreenScreen Effects Part 3

I am getting to like the greenscreen thing a lot and so I have a made yet another video. This time I made a hi res one, 800x600. I will be making a DVD out of it and check it out with a DVD player and a regular TV. I want to know if it looks good enough to make a presentation with it. I have a map of Los Angeles Valley College I made in SketchUp, and I want to make a nice video presentation. There is a 42" plasma "monitor" in the office so I want to make a video for display to show to people where the WiFi areas are. A nice video with that big plasma screen can cause a very good impression on the architects that visit the office to coordinate changes and moves relating to IT infrastructure on campus. It would be also to show off to other IT people :D from other campuses. I already have a simple video showcasing the WiFi spots on campus but I am sure I can make a better one now that I have the video editor

I can't believe how cheap this was to make... $50 bucks for the video editor and $95 for SU (academic license, one year.) In this video, I used the same animation twice, once for the colored, small one, and the second one for the silhouette in the background. I achieved this by making the SketchUp model all one color. In this case I made it black to avoid getting different shades of the same color due to the light shading in SketchUp. I then applied the GreenBox effect along with Color Shift to make the black silhouette white. The other model, the small one, is the original one. I just made it smaller. The animation settings, including cameras, are all the same for both animations.
