Door Animation

Archived SketchUp forum thread, often demonstrating a genesis of some innovative method of work.

Is there any way that I can get a door to open or close in an animation? I tried setting up the pages where one is open on a page and closed on another page, but it doesn't animate the door.

You also need to do some in between doors and assign layers that switch on/off as the pages change...

You have to 'lubricate' all hinges...!

this is what TIG meant.

Change settings.

Th page transition alter to 0.1 and page delays alter to 0. It allow a smooth animation.

Burkhard,

that is the most ingenious animation I have seen in SU.

When I try to open the sliding door one I the message "this does not appear to be a Sketchup model". Anyone else got that problem?

With the international nature of information now, online translators are useful. A person can copy/paste text - as in the tutorial above - to be translated or an entire webpage. Two translators: <http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en> and <http://babelfish.altavista.com/>. The translators aren't perfect, but usually good enough.

Is very easy.

The German guy makes all except the door a component.

On the component menu before make it a component, choose always face camera.

make a transition pages from a door closed view to an open door view...

maybe is gonna be dificult on a big model, but wass very ingenious the German who make this.

Try this new sliding door.

Will see tomorrow to translate.

This is just a quick test using FaceMe. Maybe this could be refined. Click on page tabs.

how can i do animate an object?

There are two ways to animate. One is like the door...which can be a little tricky...it has actually been made into a Face Me component, like the 2D people and trees...even though it's 3D...so it turns (and opens) when your viewpoint changes.

The second is to uses pages and layers. The most common mistake of new users is to think that you can do it like an ordinary animation in which you have a key frame at the beginning and end of the action...with the object in 2 different places...and you can just "Tween" from one to the other. It doesn't work like that.

You have to have a separate instance of the object in a separate position on a separate layer on a separate page for each frame of the action. Then you set the tourguide up so that each page shows only one layer (all the others are turned off) .

The transition time between pages is set to zero, so as each pages flashes by in sequence, it shows each layer for a brief second...the whole thing works like a flicker book.

Here is a useful thread on making animations taking advantage of the Follow Me property.

Wow Burkhard,

The SchiebetuerAnleitung.skp animation is amazing! If you ever get time to explain it to us mere mortals we'll be eternally in your debt!
