Animation tutorial

Early Scene animation tutorial.

Hi all;

Since Gerry asked (kinda), I thought I'd put together this little tutorial on animating a moving object in SketchUp. This is undoubtedly not the only way to do this, but it is the way I would do it, so I thought I would demonstrate the technique for those who might want to know. It basically tries to duplicate a traditional 'cel' animation technique.

Hope you like it.

Professor Bob

P.S. As usual, it's a bit long, so those with slow internet connections, be patient if you want to see it.

First rate as usual, professor. Here's another lesson that's been added to my tutorials, tip & tricks, and links. You have quite the collection on there.... Thanks.

Steven.

Hi Bob,

you mean "copy" ( ctrl move) instead of "move" /10, right?

I've used a variation of Bob's method to make a movie of the only bedside cabinet to be employed as a traffic cop:

Jonathan;

Right. What I actually meant was: 'Make a copy of the plug and move it into its final position, then enter /10 into the VCB.' (What can I say, it was late at night.....) ;-)

Thanks for catching that.

Bob,

If I right-click on any one of the 10 copies of the plug, I don't get the "Entity Info" box you show.

What am I missing?

Thanks. Ben

Ben,

when you right click on the object you should get a menu from which you need to select 'show info'.

By the way, once this box is open you can leave it open and it will always show details of whatever is selected (saves right clicking lots).

Gerry,

I don't get this option on the menu that opens, not even grayed out. The closest option is the Properties option, but that doesn't help.

Gerry, is this a Mac feature? I'm running Windows.

Ben,

Yes I am working on a Mac, I assumed it would be the same in Windows. I checked the help file and it does say that this is a Mac feature. I expect that there is another way to open this window - try looking in the 'window' menu bar for 'entity info'.

Otherwise I suggest you post your request in a new thread with a heading like "entity info on a PC".

There do seem to be a lot of differences between the Mac and PC versions; I'd be curious to know why - let's hope that in time they catch up with each other. You could do worse than getting one of those new G5 Macs.

Good luck

Gerry,

Thanks for the help anyway. The help files in the Windows version don't even mention that it's a Mac feature.

I'll keep looking.

Take care. Ben

Ben,

The Win equivalent of ENTITY INFO is the PROPERTIES choice in the Win right click menu. Unlike the OS X version, it cannot not currently persist off to the side. That is referred to as a modeless dialog. The Win PROPERTIES dialog is currently modal. That may change in a future SketchUp.
