Graphics display problem with Nvidia 8800GTS 512k

Notable, old forum thread. Note that Conformant Texture Clamping no longer is an option on NVIDIA Control Panels.

I just finished building a new PC with a Q6600 processor and Nvidia 8800GTS 512k. I play multiple games and have no issues with them but I have serious issues with Sketchup.

1. When I try to edit a model in Sketchup, the display is "hashed" in a line below where the cursor is. By hashed, I mean it looks like it is "interlaced" but in 1/4 inch lines.

2. Sometimes, when the "hashing" occurs, the program seems to "freeze". The cursor will freeze and I can get no response for 5-10 seconds, then it will "unfreeze" although the "hashing" is still present.

3. It seems to happen only when I use one of the drawing tools. For instance, it never happens when I am simply navigating (such as orbiting or panning) or when I am "walking" or "looking around". From this, I am guessing that it has something to do with the type of cursor that is being displayed. The "hashing" is visible only starting at the horizontal level (on the screen) of the cursor hot spot and below. Never above.

I have done some experiments, I turned off all anti-aliasing since a previous poster indicated that he thought that was the problem. This did not help.

Has anyone had this same problem? Has anyone at Nvidia noticed this?

I have Googled a bit on "nvidia google sketchup problem" with no relevant results.

Thanks,

Hunter

DirectX 10 or 9? In the NVidia control panel, are most of the relevant setting, set to application controlled? Last I read, SU still prefers how DirectX 9 and OpenGL play together. Setting hardware acceleration (anti-aliasing, antisotropic too) to application controlled overcame a DirectX 10 issue with one 8000 series NVidia user.

Have you tried unchecking fast feedback in Window/Preferences/OpenGL?

You can check how DirectX is feeling: Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Tools/DirectX diagnostic tool. It's at least good for a few giggles.

I had the exact same problem as you Hunter S.

To fix it go to [Nvidia Control Panel] -> [Manage 3d settings] -> Under the [Global Settings] tab -> Turn [Conformant Texture Clamp] to the [OFF] setting.

Then start Sketchup, go to [Window] -> [Preferences] -> select [OpenGl] -> uncheck [Use fast feedback] and leave [Use hardware acceleration] checked.

This solved the problem for me =)

Thanks. That worked for me too. How did you know what to do?

Having to uncheck fast feedback indicates you still have some issues with your video driver.

I have an EVGA NVidia 8600 GTS 512KB and use DirectX 9 in XP Pro. In SU I have both hardware acceleration and fast feedback checked. My conformant texture clamp is set to Use hardware.

Eventually NVidia will release a better driver.

Stebbi's solution worked for me, too (8800GT with Intel Q6600).

Should have mentioned that I'm running a clean install of XP and no other programs have any problems whatsoever.
