What is the PTC?
The Sherman Oaks Parent Teacher Committee (PTC) is a group of parents and teachers that work together to bring events and programs to the Sherman Oaks community that benefit our students. The PTC Board Members are dedicated to organizing volunteers, planning events throughout the year, and raising funds for the school. All parents and teachers are invited to actively support the PTC to help build community and achieve academic success at Sherman Oaks. There is no cost or membership fees to participate in the PTC and we are a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The PTC relies 100% on volunteers for all of our activities.
Why join the PTC?
The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Committee is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. There are many benefits to supporting the PTC:

Tap into a Network and Speak Up. The PTC functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences.

Witness Improvement. By getting involved at Sherman Oaks you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. The PTC plays an important role in organizing volunteers and fundraising to provide school improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events.

What Does The PTC Do?
The PTC plans and organizes many fun, educational and cultural events for the students and community of Sherman Oaks Elementary. In addition, the PTC holds several fundraisers throughout the year to finance these events, grade level field trips, educational resources and after school enrichment programs.

1st Day of School Parent/PTC Coffee and Bagels
Multicultural and Movie Night
Cultural Celebrations: Dia de Los Muertos, Las Posadas, Lunar New Year, Black History, Cesar Chavez Day
Staff Appreciation Luncheons
Science Day, Water Day
FUNDRAISERS
We also plan, create and sell the annual Sherman Oaks Elementary Yearbook
FUNDRAISERS:
Halloween Fiesta - Raises money for Grade Level Field Trips
Super Raffle - Raises money for 8th Grade Yosemite Camp, 5th grade Science Camp, other grade level field trips, and PTC general fund
Carnival - Raises money for the PTC General Fund
Restaurant Dine Outs, Amazon, Benefit, BoxTops - Raises money for the PTC General Fund
The PTC also supports the financial needs of the school and teachers on an as needed basis. Other previous projects financed by the PTC General Fund:
Keyboards for the music departments
Apple TV screens for classrooms
Teacher reimbursements for out of pocket expenses
Annual subscriptions/licenses for educational programs and online resources
