Traditional music from Carlow
This is the debut recording of the well-known county Carlow duet of Dave Sheridan on fiddle and Ciaran Somers on flute. The two players are noted for the energy and sense of enjoyment that they bring to their music. The album was mainly recorded in Brittany, France at the studio of Nicolas Quemener who accompanies them here on guitar. Nicolas lived in Galway for three years in the early nineties when he toured with the group, ‘Arcady’ alongside Johnny ‘Ringo’ Mc Donagh, who also guests on the CD.
Both Dave and Ciaran have played extensively all over Ireland and have represented Ireland at many international festivals across all continents. This CD is a collection of the more unusual tunes that they have picked up on their travels. It captures the enjoyment of two players sharing their exploration of newly learnt tunes and the unique accompaniment of McDonagh and Quenemer greatly adds to the experience. Michelle Powderly also features on a fiddle duet track with husband, Dave, as well as playing cello on a track of Brehon tunes.
