K.O.AA.5 Fluently add and subtract within 5.
Essential Questions
What addition and subtraction math websites do you like the best?
Why do you like or dislike those particular websites?
What happens when we combine groups and what happens when we take groups apart?
Understandings
Students will understand .. addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.
Students will know that...
they can put together interactive math websites using symbaloo webmix to to curate addition and subtraction resources.
Students will be able to... explore different websites to assess their value in helping them demonstrate their understanding of how objects can be joined (addition) and separated (subtraction).

Assessment Evidence
Performance Tasks:
Create an addition and subtraction educational webmix.
Self Assessments:
Students will discuss in small groups what they liked and disliked about searching for math websites related to addition and subtraction.
Other Evidence:
Learning Plan
Inquiry Hook: I demonstrated how to maneuver around different math Symbaloo web mixes. They will explore websites that have math resources. They will then evaluate and submit their favorites that are relevant to our topic.
Activity Procedure:
Reflection Methods: Discuss with a partner if you like or dislike the web mix that was created. Give reasons why.

I taught my students how to curate math resources and videotaped a technology based lesson on mathematics. I witnessed an amazing transformation in my students’ attitudes towards learning. In the activity portion of this module where I created a Symbaloo web mix with a multitude of kindergarten resources. I gave my students access to use it and they started expressing their learning in ways that I have never seen before.
I have one little boy who had essentially checked out from learning before I introduced the Symbaloo web mix. He had been crawling under the tables, not responding to questions and basically performing below grade level standards. When I personalized his learning experience and allowed him an opportunity to choose his learning path, I discovered that he has a deep love for music. I saw a side of him that I have never seen before. He was highly engaged, and he started taking on a leadership role by helping other children locate websites. He was absolutely euphoric!
I have another little girl who speaks English as a second language and I have been struggling to reach her. She found a website in my web mix with a variety of stories. She was absolutely mesmerized. I have never witnessed her sustain her attention for this length of time. I have so many more success stories but this module has truly been a game changer. My students were enthusiastically pursuing their learning interests and demonstrating an ability to express their learning creatively while developing collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills. I know, I unintentionally might not have done this lesson plan correctly but I experienced a tremendous amount of growth. When you asked us to do the following:
“Develop a lesson plan that asks students to curate resources and create a video on an educational subject.”
I took this literally.
As I now closely look at the reflection prompt:” In creating a sample video for your lesson plan in the portfolio project, did you choose to instruct them in how to curate resources, or did you create a sample video on how to create their own video? Why did you choose curation over creation or vice-versa?” I did not create a video showing them how to curate or how to make a video. In this lesson I effectively integrated technology throughout and I did teach them how to use curated resources. I just was not clear that I was supposed to video tape how to curate or video how to make a video.
I feel like the lesson that I did plan and implement, was very age appropriate, and allowed for active participation.
