We provide an analytical service that will enable you to visualize your samples structure and elemental composition. You will not have to worry about much of the following, but it is there to provide you with some background information.
We primarily use scanning electron microscopy at magnifications from 50 X to 50,000X, and will measure the elemental composition of your sample at selected points. This is extremely useful in determining not only what is present, but also in shedding light on the background processes at play within your sample. The following pages don't claim to be comprehensive but they will enable you to gain some appreciation of the possibilities and limitations of the systems that create the images and analyses that you will receive. If you wish to ask some questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
You can loosely divide your EM examination around the fundamental questions of how your sample looks, what are the size, shape and the elemental composition of the features within your sample, and how does one feature relate to another.... more...
EM Images and Analyses Background
To fully understand the images that you will acquire, it is useful to also gain a rudimentary understanding of the way in which those signals are created and what characteristics of your sample will effect them...more...
There are three basic types of electron microscope, they are the Transmission Electron Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope and Electron Microprobe. These machines differ in the way they are constructed and the purpose for which they are used, however, they are all electron beam based instrumentation that work on similar principles. ...more...
Sample preparation procedures will depend on the type of sample that you have, but irrespective of your sample they are a number of constraints that your prepared sample must be meet in order to obtain a successful image ....more....
Length of examination and costings
This is a very difficult question to answer because the time spent will depend a lot on your sample and certainly on the question you ask. In essence the less complex the sample and the more specific the question the quicker the answer ....more....
