It is well-known in work on long-distance reflexivity that Latin has long-distance reflexives. The reflexive pronoun sē is both an anaphor bound in the minimal complete nucleus and a logophoric reflexive, but its distribution indicates that a further distinction must be made between 'true' logophoricity and empathy or point of view.

The 'true' logophoric use is strongly dependent on certain matrix predicates. The logophoric reflexive sē is syntactically unconstrained and very frequent, and it is therefore a useful test-case for the hypothesis that the matrix predicate licenses logophoric reflexives within a certain logophoric domain.
