Species: Nyara
Biology
Nyara typically stand over six feet tall. They have 3 fingers and an opposable thumb. They act as talons. They are an avian-like race, making them resemble humanoid birds or raptors. Nyara give birth to live young. They have a distinctive dual toned voice. The echo of their voice is more emotion based. Volume and Pitch can express fear, anger, joy, etc. The only differences between genders are that males have a higher peak on the top of their head, they have a slightly larger torso, and they average about 2 inches taller than females. The lifespan of a Nyara is comparable to that of a human.
Nyara are predators. They have keen eyesight and can even adapt to night hunting. They have a reptilian jaw structure. Their talons on both their feet and hands seem capable of ripping flesh. As such, their diet is primarily meat-based. Nyara have a digestive system similar to birds and reptiles on Earth, some of whom swallow stones to help break down harder foods in the stomach. Their slender bodies and light weight make it so they are capable of moving at high speeds.
Nyar (Planet)
Located in the Delta Quadrant. The Nyara home world is a wild and dangerous one. It is a Jungle environment. Lush trees and shrubs cover the planet. Nyar has many rivers, watering holes, and large water bases such as oceans. Nyar if filled with predators larger that the Nyara, such as Suburban sized rhino/boar like creatures called Turchak.
History
Nyara have been living their prehistoric lifestyle for 1000s of years. They saw no need to change their lifestyle, but when Romulans discovered them in 2320 they soon realized that the worlds around them was much different.
A Romulan explorer ship found Nyar and studied their species. There was feuding and death from both sides. But the Romulans did not expect the Nyara to be such skilled killers. The Romulan explorer crew was nearly wiped out by the Nyara. There predator instincts had kept them safe this time, but the Nyara new that their simple lifestyle would not be enough to keep them safe forever.
The Nyara set up a Military training facility. They had recruited the few Romulans that had surrendered and used them to help train them. They studied the Romulan Vessel and the weaponry. Over the years they have learned more and more and now have a facility specializing in over 25 types of weaponry of many cultures.
Culture
Nyara are a Tribe based culture. Tribes range in numbers of 20 to 50 members. In each tribe there is a social ladder. 1. Chief/Elder 2. Warrior 3. Provider 4. Breeder. The Chief is usually an older member of the tribe. They act as a wise man. They are story tellers and the shamans of the tribe. They are looked at with respect. This is a title passed down by Chief.
Nyara are raised by society. In adolescents a Nyara is a gatherer for the tribe, picking berries and grabbing sticks for fire. Around puberty they are taught to hunt for food and game. Upon reaching adulthood they may chose their role. Breeders are like sheep. They are there for a specific purpose producing more Providers and Warriors. Providers are the middle-class they keep the tribe going with food, water, clothing, and shelter. The Warriors is where all the glory is placed.
To be a Warrior is like being a god in their eyes. It is someone to keep Nyara life safe. There are two different types of warriors on Nyar, the Nyar Warriors(Nya) and the Galactic Warriors(Gala). Different people react to the two warrior types differently. It is an Honor to be accepted in the Gala. It is a place of high prestige. Yet the Nya is what protects Nyar everyday.
There is no gender inequality. Any one can be a Warrior, Provider, or Breeder. It is not unusual to have a healthy mix in each sect. Although due to instinct there is a heavier weight of female Nyara in the Breeder sect.
Religion
The Nyara are very in tune with the nature and the spirits. The Chief acts as direct communicator between the world and the Nyara. Some Nyara do not believe in or really care about religion. But their simplistic life is definitely religion based.
---folklore---
Nyara Spirit- Ephelim is the spirit of the wind. They believe that Ephelim is the life giver. Nyara breathe in Ephelim and it gives them life. When Ephelim no longer inhaled their life is gone.
Economy
All Economy in the tribes is based on a bartering system. While the Gala trade with a currency made from minerals on Nyar that most ports will accept.
Military
The Gala is the military group on Nyar. They are typically all trained in some sort of weaponry. At some point the Nyara realized that they were not only behind on weapons. So Gala also offers Minor Degrees in Medicine, Science, Pilot, Engineer, etc.
The Gala is kept well guarded and separated from the tribes. The Gala is hidden in a hollowed mountain or cave. In the Gala you are in it for life. You may roam the Galaxy all you want, but if you come home your resources my not. If the location of Gala or the resources of Gala are returned to the tribes it is a crime punishable by death. Spreading the technology into the tribes is considered sacrilegious and stupid.
