Wyler is a handsome young man, with his lean build and lack of any facial hair, he actually looks a bit younger than he is. He is thin but wiry, he is really quite athletic. He has a charming smile when he chooses to use it. In public he usually is garbed in typical work clothes with thick soled shoes. He carries himself with a quiet confidence.
There is nothing about him that stands out, he blends in well with the crowd.
He does have one scar, a long white one on his left thigh, obviously whatever befell him happened years before. Wyler was born on Setlin, first son to Jediah and MarilTrace. He has two sisters, both younger. His father ran an electronics repair service, specializing in starship wiring and troubleshooting plus computer hardware repair/replacement. He did good business given the planet was a stopover for a lot of interplanetary trade routes. He gave good service, charged fair rates, and built up a successful business.
Wyler had a fairly normal childhood, he was a typical boy, did well enough in school, enjoyed sports, didn't get into any serious trouble other than the usual boy mischief. Then when he turned 14, his father pulled him from school and brought him into the business to learn the trade. He became an apprentice and joined the Tech Guild, which his father was also an officer in.
Wyler proved a quick study and emersed himself in all the aspects of the field. His father was confident that eventually he could hand down the business to his son. However when Wyler was 17, all that changed for the worse.
The Guild had a powerful influence over the way business was done on Setlin, they had their fingers in the pie for everything involving the busy trade traffic which came and went at the starport. Greed and rivalries were commonplace within the Guild and local politics could get intense even nasty.
Doing business on Setlin was not for the timid.
Wyler's father got himself tangled up with one particular local feud which escalated quickly. He ended up backing the wrong man in a Guild election and the winner was a vengeful sort, not to mention very crooked. Soon he manuvered Guild procedure to blackball Jediah Trace, thus causing his business to wither and crash as customers were directed anyplace but to his place.
Jediah took it hard, obviously, it was his life, his world, and his dream for his family's future security....all collapsed. His health suffered too and yet he kept battling to do what he could to make a comeback. Things only got rougher. His workshop was mysteriously burnt to the ground. Even his family wasn't safe. Wyler got into a few fights, none picked by him.
The final straw was when both Wyler's sisters were literally kidnapped off the streets. Jediah spent the last of his depleted funds to investigate their disappearnce and called in an old friend to get them back. Sadly, he suffered a fatal stroke before he even could hear the good news that the girls were rescued.
Wyler changed during all this and gone was the easy going friendly boy. He became embittered and even worse, desperate. He needed to provide for his mother and sisters, it was a big responsiblity and he could not get a job on Setlin thanks to the Guild.
There was no other option - he had to find a starship which would hire him on. He'd never been off the planet surface other than a few times on an orbiting repair dock. Now he would have to chance going off into the vastness of space and hopefully survive long enough to keep sending money back to his family. Maybe if he got lucky, he could afford to have them leave Setlin and resettle elsewhere.
Motivations are quite basic for Wyler. He needs a job, he needs money to support his mother and sisters. He will do almost anything to get it too.
Wyler looks like a kid but he's a lot tougher than most people realize at first glance, the classic example of 'looks can be deceiving'.
