Marius Prott

Appearance: Marius has long sleek black hair that he has pulled back into a ponytail at the back of his neck. His features are sharp and chisled, with high cheekbones, a long nose, and thin lips. His eyes are usually half-lidded, as if he's about to drowse off into sleep. He's neither lanky nor overweight.

Background: Born of a betazoid father and a human mother, Marius was often teased as a child that his father wanted to have a wife he could hide his mind from (with the implication that he kept a mistress, although Marius did not realize the exact nature of the teasing until he was a teenager). He also became somewhat of a loner and outcast as a result of the manifestation of his telepathic abilities. First, they developed early compared to his peers, so that he was considered "weird". But they also found an odd manifestation. Whereas most bi-species betazeds have empathic ability with no telepatic ability, Marius was just the opposite. He could sense telepathically what people were thinking, but there was no empathic context. This resulted in frequent misinterpretation of thoughts and misunderstandings. He ended up being thought generally unlikeable or suffering from a malady (like autism in humans). He was able to compensate somewhat by learning from his mother human tricks for seeing emotion, but he still has occasional issues with this lack.

While attending school on Betazed, he met his Imzadi - a beautiful human girl named Aria. In this way, he followed in his father's footsteps.

He had planned to attend Starfleet Academy after graduation, but his unflinching honesty proved his downfall when he informed the wife of one of his teachers about some nefarious acts he was planning.

The teacher singlehandedly blackballed Marius, resulting in his failure to enter the Academy and his separation from Aria, who made the cut.

Desperately looking for a job, he fell into doing security work for SAI. Despite being in a job he hated, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a mid-level supervisor.

His telepathic abilities have proved an advantage in security, but he carefully guards the secret of his Betazoid heritage, wearing colored contacts to hide his otherwise black irises. He has also developed the rare art of learning foreign and xeno languages. Because he can only read the thoughts, if the thoughts are in a language he doesn't understand, it does him no good. Therefore, he spends most of his spare time studying the languages of the universe.

Personality: Generally congenieal, Marius can quickly turn frosty if he perceives that someone is insulting him personally or especially if they second-guess his telepathic ability.
