Uniforms

Note the picture below is from an ebay auction and most likely a fake. The oval behind the jump wings is for 127th Airborne Engineers but the collar brass indicates the wearer of this jacket is an Infantry Captain. It is possible but not very likely. In the mid 1990's many young officers left the Army because of a Reduction In Force (RIF) policy that allowed them to receive a buyout on their enlistment contract. This left the Infantry short of Platoon Leaders. Officers of other branches were offered those positions. While stationed in Alaska, we had a Platoon Leader in our company that was a Military Policeman. I don't believe that situation existed during WWII.

Pictured below are a group of Living Historians / Re-enactors portraying the 511th PIR at Warbirds Over The Beach, 15th - 17th of May 2009, in Virginia Beach, Va. These guys normally do the 505th PIR so hats off and a big thanks for representing the 11th Airborne! If you are interested in what these guys do, they have a web site at http://www.panthers505.com
