Formation of PC FLIGHT SIM GROUP
Sun City West PC Fight Sim Group
Organized by Bob Meyers, with early members, Bill Eckenberg, Bill Berry, and More........
Bob had soloed in the late 1960's at Sally;s Flying School located at Palwaukee Airport in Wheeling, Illinois.
He continued and completed his Pilot Certificate for "Single engine/land". Bob had around 450 total hours.
In 1999, Bob and a few fellow SCW flight simmers started visiting the Sun City Flight Sim Group headed by Howard Mayhew.
After many invites, Howard and his group helped with the starting of SCW Flight Sim Group (2003/2004).
Although members were using FS1998 and FS2002, our club made it's first purchase of flight sim hardware and new FS2004 software
We were growing and on our way!
The First 15 Years 2001-2016
Bob Meyers was our chief pilot and instructor. (2001-2008)
We are very much in debt to Bob Meyers for his MANY hours of research and
development of our "Book" of "How To Fly FS2004 & FSX".
An illness caused him to pass the leadership to original member Bill Berry.
Ed Archambault took the reins when Bill Berry and his wife Marianne, returned
to the mid-west. After noticing the low temperatures plus that it snowed in the winter, it was time to return to the Valley of the Sun.
The baton was past back to Bill for a few years then Sam Henderson.
When Sam took the Computers West Chair post, Ed became the PC Flight Sim Group Chair once again.
In 2012, Computer Flight Sims were added for One-on-One Instruction.
Mike Funk was instrumental in building 3 complete flight sims. Flight Sim #2 (The Big Box) has swing out storage doors with software and hardware.
This History is being updated and corrected.
