Captain Barker

Captain Bill Barker has been with the Flight Sim Group since 2010. During this time, he has offered his services as a VFI (Virtual Flight Instructor) and program participant, tossing us morsels of aviation wisdom along the way. He has vowed to continue tossing us a nugget on a monthly basis, as long as Nagy brews the coffee he needs to avoid taking a nap in the “cockpit”.

Captain Barker is a former pilot for Eastern Airlines and served in that capacity for 23 years. With thousands of hours in aircraft such as Piper Cubs and Boeing 727 jet liners, he has the experience and knowledge to use as an educational tool for all of us. He also has 2 offspring who have followed in his footsteps, serving as pilots for two major carriers.

Unfortunately, his screen door repair business has taken a hit from the emerging technology of 3D printing, now that just about everyone can simply print off a new screen door instead of repairing the old one. This technology ironically was fostered by the aviation business, which uses it to create spare parts for many airframes. Captain Barker has repeatedly insisted that he will NEVER climb aboard an aircraft with printed parts.

Captain Barker currently serves as our Chief VFI. His drawing of a winged creature is featured here on this page. While he insists it is a rendition of a swan, most see a turkey.
