課程描述Course Description:
The CONTENT of this semester will be divided into THREE parts that will be interwoven:
A. I will present every other week the theoretical framing of the various basic issues that concern the STUDY of design as a kind of world-making.
B. Students will give me every other week feedback by writing their thoughts on some of the topics that I addressed the week before.
C. Returning students. will have a chance to design a GAME.
NOTE: Students must base their thoughts, views, and critiques, by engaging in a conversation with my presentations.
GAME DESIGN:
This project will be available to RETURNING STUDENTS only. Students will work in a TEAM of 2-3 persons.
The GAME may be of any scale - from a table game to a field game, using any medium - but it MUST BE NON-DIGITAL. It MUST BE ANALOG.
The game design’s aim is as follows, and will be judged accordingly.
1. Fun for a wide variety of people of all age groups
2. Universality: must be easily played by persons of any culture
3. Complexity: This makes FUN last longer, and the game less predictable.
4. Originality: The game may be based on an existing game, but must introduce a new element of challenge and excitement.
5. Economic feasibility in production and/or implementation
6. ELEGANCE of the IDEA, and the DESIGN of the THING
