課程描述Course Description:
This studio-based, theories-supported elective course will focus on understanding and rethinking the interrelationships amongst technology, design, science and art. With an emphasis on discussing the ever-evolving roles of design (and of designer) in response to critical/urgent contemporary issues, students will have the opportunity to explore design themes in connection with the society, politics and natural-cultural environments. Therefore this course encourages participants to review yet challenge the traditions of/in design to serve/satisfy end-users/audience, with an insight to undermine the dichotomies between human and non-human when taking design as a creative act to 'solve problems' in/for the 21st century. By introducing several burgeoning trends across the communications/digital media/interaction design communities as a prompt to initiate workshop project ideas, the undergraduate students will practice research-oriented design at the introductory level. Supported by inter/cross-disciplinary contexts, students will be working/playing in small groups to conduct several experimental design projects along with the laboratory, fieldwork and gallery tracks throughout the semester.
