Garden work day Sat (5/7/11)

The 4/30 work day has changed to Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. I want to thank everyone who participated in last Saturday's Community garden gala. We accomplished building 12 new garden beds for the Food Bank; repairing beds that loosened during the winter; transplanting some blueberry bushes and discussing the logistics of moving the entire garden to Florida. We all played very hard and the results rewarded us for our efforts.

Next Saturday we will finish prettying up and start planting (yes, planting) seeds in the Food Bank beds. We will also go over the garden rules and familiarize everyone with the watering system and shared maintenance of the garden area.

Here are some things we will need for next Saturday

Cardboard to lay in between beds

Shredded bark anyone with a pickup truck can get a load ($5 charge) at:

McFarland Cascade located at 977 Baldy Mountain Road (263-2141)

It would be great if someone could get a load or two and drop it off at the garden by Saturday. A couple of us have done this for the last two years and would really appreciate some help.

Wheelbarrows - We have one but another two or three will speed things up.

And bring your own seeds and start planting. I've already planted peas, beets, spinach, and potatoes. My peas, beets and spinach are up and am hoping I'll see some potato leaves soon. I have protected my beds from snow drifts with row covers but I'm thinking by next week you'll be good to plant some stuff.
