Knights of Columbus Council 6217 receives international praise for supporting Ukraine

This week, our Knights of Columbus Canon John Burke Council 6217 was featured in the Knightline news update, which is a global English news source for the order. Our council was recognized for its efforts in raising funds for humanitarian relief in the war-torn Ukraine. Through the generosity of our community and our friends in the wider community, we helped raise more than $1,800 for the Knights Ukraine Solidarity Fund at a brass quintet concert in November 2022.

Our council has been active for nearly 55 years. This recognition is a tribute to the longstanding members of this council, who have worked tirelessly for decades to make a difference, inspired by the Order's founder, Blessed Father Michael McGivney.

Canon John Burk Council No. 6217

Canon John Burke Council meets in St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church which is located at 3891 Richmond Road in the new City of Ottawa. We participate in St. Martin de Porres Parish by carrying out various projects and by providing funds for many others. Many of our membership serve in many of the parish ministries.

Functionally, we are part of District 98, State Council of Ontario.

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic male organization committed to assist the parish priest in all Church activities. Originally chartered as a fraternal benefit society assisting orphans and widows, the Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare and public relief works.

The pastor is the Chaplain of Canon John Burke Council # 6217 and membership is open to any Catholic male in good standing with the church.

Time Commitment

The council meets once a month on the 2nd Monday of the month, except in July and August. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm for the officers of the council, followed by the regular meeting at 7:30 pm. The duration of the regular meeting is usually one hour and a half, involving discussions on the various projects in the council in which members can volunteer.
