Sigma Alpha is a professional agricultural sorority that promotes scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship among its members. The sorority was founded in 1978 at the Ohio State University by five women who wanted an alternative to the social Greek sorority system. Since that time, Sigma Alpha has become a national organization consisting of more than 80 chapters, comprised of undergraduate and alumni members. Today, more than 9,900 members have been initiated into Sigma Alpha Sorority. We’re growing steadily as others in agriculture learn about the powerful network and professional skills we as Sigma Alpha women can provide.
The Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Alpha was activated on February 18, 2006 with 20 founding members. Much like the original founding members of Sigma Alpha at Ohio State, the founding members were looking for an alternative to the social Greek life that was already in place at UW-River Falls. They wanted a sorority that they could live out their pride for agriculture. Since being established on the UW-River Falls Campus, Sigma Alpha-Beta Zeta has changed the lives of more than one hundred agricultural women. We come from all different backgrounds, majors, and experiences, but the one binding element to us all is that we love agriculture. As we continue to change lives and make a difference in our communities, we work to cultivate professional women in agriculture.
