Infinity Mirror
Here is another gift project that I worked on for my girlfriend this past Christmas. Since she wanted an infinity bracelet, I thought it was a good idea to compliment the anniversary gift present with an infinity mirror.
For anyone not familiar with an infinity mirror the idea is pretty simple: just place some sort of illumination between a one-way (transparent on one side) mirror and a real mirror. The reflections creates an illusion of a very deep box filled with lights.
My build was very simple. I just used a 3m RGB led strip from eBay, along with a cheap microcontroller for the leds and I found a power source that could supply the current needed for the strip in the mirror.
After getting all the parts I did some quick tests with the one way mirror tint (also purchased from ebay).
I needed a way to hang the mirror on the wall after I recessed the backing that had the hanging hooks. I decided that an easy method was to cut out some triangles at right angles to attach some wall mounts to each corner and then paint the new corner pieces to match the black trim. It was much quicker than creating a whole new backing and by doing just the corners it left a gap between the back side and the wall which I thought was a very convenient excuse to add a backdrop of LEDs to the mirror.
And the finished result (a few uncleaned scuffs showing):
And here you can see some better images of the corner brackets. You can also see the RF remote control for the RGB LED micro-controller (**interesting side note about the RF remote, turns out that some TV remotes use the same frequency so some clicks with her TV remote will change the color of the LEDs in the mirror).
