The Club

Rushcliffe Swimming Club was established in 1976 at Rushcliffe Leisure Centre, and is based at Rushcliffe Arena in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Run entirely by volunteers and following the Swim England programme (levels 1-10), we aim to provide a relaxed and fun atmosphere in which children can learn to become enthusiastic and competent swimmers. In addition, we run a weekly family swim session during which members from all generations can enjoy the fun and fitness aspects of swimming.

We are proudly not a competitive club, aiming to have fun on the journey to lifelong swimmiing for children and adults. We think this enthusiasm and enjoying the pool will inspire all our children to rapidly achieve their full potential (e.g. competence, confidence and water safety). We do this through teaching the Swim England 'Learn to Swim Programme', the 'Learn to Swim Framework' (Stages 1-7) and 'Aquatic Skills Framework' (Stages 8-10) for Swimming.

We provide regular opportunities for children to obtain the ASA skills and distance awards.

We run an informal Annual Gala, typically in November, in which children can compete against other club members. In case you think we take this too seriously, the highlights this year beyond the standard races included the inflatables race (with lovey flamingo and turtle) and the all comers relay race (e.g. Stage 1s riding on their parent's back). Some of our members go on to join other competetive clubs and they perform very well in this context, building upon the solid foundations they have laid with us.

Importantly, we feel, is that we also offer swimmers who have been with us a while the opportunity to learn to teach! This journey starts at 14, with the chance to gain a Swim England 'Swimming Lesson Helper' certificate. This is great for their confidence, and contribute to awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh.

We are affiliated to the Swim England, and all of our volunteer teachers are CRB checked and accredited to ASA Level 1 or Level 2 standards.

Please feel free to contact the club if you have any queries.
