Part One: On the Road
Mayor Kendra Deverin requested the group's audience. She introduced them to Jeminda Anikee, a Magnimar bookkeeper, and the mayor's cousin. Jeminda explained that her brother-in-law, Elias Kyle, was a tax collector that she could trust. She sent him to Ravenmoor to collect on taxes that hadn't been paid in 15 years, due to a clerical error. He sent a letter from Galduria, but she hasn't heard from him in almost a month. She asks the group to travel to Ravenmoor to inquire about Elias, and collect the taxes, if possible. She revealed she is worried that he may have absconded with the tax money and fled to Riddleport.
The group traveled to Galduria and then along the Western shore of the Lampblack River. Where the river bends, the group was forced to use a little-used trail, along the river's coast, into increasingly dreary and bleak boglands. Insects became a constant annoyance the closer they were to Ravenmoor.
Part Two: Exploring Ravenmoor
As they neared the town, they crossed the river by ferry. Investigations in the town yielded little information, other than Elias had shown up in town, but then left. The townsfolk didn't really take much notice and weren't sure what he was doing in town. The group went to the Mayor's house, to ask him about Elias. The mayor's brother, Leonard Kriegler, stopped them outside and gruffly insisted they leave, the mayor, however, allowed them inside to answer questions. Mayor Andretti Kriegler apologized for his brother and informed them that the Founders' Festival was fast approaching and everyone was busy getting ready. He informed the group he had heard rumors that Elias fled to Riddleport after collecting the taxes, and they did not have the full payment available to pay again. He did invite the group to enjoy the festival and stay the night in his home. he would scrape up what he could for a payment in the morning.
Part Three: The Founders' Festival
The group took advantage of the nearly empty town and investigated while the townsfolk were at the festival. They didn't find anything, so they headed to the festival area just in time to see the greased pig transform into a horrible monstrosity. They slaughtered the creature, but found the lack of surprise from the villagers disturbing. The villagers claimed it happened every now and then, blaming it on bad magic in the ground. The group took the beast away and burned it, using the time to slip away and investigate more of the town.
The group explores an old abandoned farmhouse on the edge of town, and discover odd robes and masks. Inside the nearby barn, they are attacked by disfigured humans. Once they are defeated, the group finds a mace emblazoned with the symbol of Magnimar, a typical weapon assigned to tax collectors.
Part Four: The Longest Night
As midnight draws near, the group decides to hide. Shortly after, the villagers return from the festival, though some did not head to their homes, but to the abandoned farmhouse. Here the villagers gathered and began to dress in the strange robes. The group set the farmhouse ablaze, striking down any that escaped. The mayor was captured and manacled as well. Most of the group went into the maze behind the farmhouse, and found a small pool, where a marsh giant emerged from a portal. The group eventually defeated the giant, and returned to Sandpoint with the former mayor of Ravenmoor in tow.
