Dr. Rubaiyet's primary research is focused in the field of materials science, nanotechnology and printed electronics for advanced functional applications, especially in the field of energy harvesting, sensing, actuation, self-power system developments etc.
Thanks to the breakthroughs and progress in fabrication techniques and miniaturization, electronics devices nowadays required less and less power. The emergence of digital additive manufacturing techniques, such as, printed electronics, additive 3D manufacturing techniques, open new possibilities to manufacture consumer electronics products in cost-efficient and relatively environment friendly ways.
Amongst different alternatives, mechanical/ kinetic energies are the most abundant form of renewable sources of energy that are generally wasted in day-to-day life. The mechanical energy conversion can be performed using several mechanisms, such as, piezoelectric, electrostatic and triboelectric.
