Legacy Project 2015: Women in Architecture/Seattle and WashingtonFor the AIA Women in Architecture (WIA) Leadership Summit September 17-20, 2015 in Seattle, AIA Seattle Women in Design (WID) assembled and recorded conversations with and among some of the distinguished women architects of Seattle and Washington, documenting the legacy of the unique challenges and successes of their careers in design -- sustaining the WIA Legacy Series.
At an early-2015 assembly in Seattle (details TBA), the Women in Design team recorded brief interviews with N. Sue Alden FAIA, Jennie Sue Brown FAIA, Carolyn D. Geise FAIA, L. Jane Hastings FAIA, and Dr. Sharon E. Sutton FAIA, and also conversations among those gathered.
Questions included:
*What motivated you to undertake a career in architecture?
*What challenges did you meet in your studies and work?
*Over the course of your career, how have things changed for women in architecture?
*What advice do you have for women undertaking careers in architecture?
*How do you assess the role of women in leading and changing the profession?
With the support of local and national partners including AIA Diversity and Inclusion, WID planned to assemble and record more-recently inducted women Fellows, and present a showing of the recordings as part of the September Summit/Design in Public at an event honoring these distinguished women.
