Design Competition
Design a Theater in collaboration with an Architect
The project was to include a theater performance space in a future 12-story tower where offices, transit center and street-level retail will be present. The Book of specification detailed everything that was to be consider, the area of the block used for the tower, the number of seat in the theater, the support spaces, the front of the house, the inclusion of specific rooms (elevators core , mechanical and electrical shafts)…
This project was done with an architect student. He took care of the architectural knowledge, whereas we (two acoustic students) took care of all the acoustical-related parts:
· Acoustic isolation from the transit center vibration and city noise
· Acoustic isolation to the retail tenant
· Acoustic isolation to office above
· Acoustic isolation of elevator noise and vibration
· Room planning for the theater, including dimensional relationships and room volume.
· Acoustic finishes for the theater and rehearsal room, particularly addressing low frequencies
· Intelligibility of speech within the theater, independent of actor orientation
· Background noise criteria for critical spaces
· Supply and return air strategy for the theater and stage
