Today, I was surprised to see a former patient of yesteryears.   She had not seen me for a long time.  She came all the way from Samar to have a check-up with me for her swollen leg.

Then, Maria Buella, now 68 years old, told and thank me for what I did in 1992.    I did a modified radical mastectomy for her breast cancer in the Philippine General Hospital in September 30, 1992 (she cannot forget the date – I don’t have her records anymore).  She was 43 years old then.  She did not receive any additional treatment after her operation.  She is now 26 years in remission.  We both thank God for this long remission.  (Published with permission from patient and daughter.)

Breast Cancer Survivor Lelita Tuazon – 23 Years in Remission

I met the daughter of Ms. Lelita Tuazon who told me about her mother.  I operated on her mother in 1990.  I did a modified radical mastectomy.  She refused additional treatment – no chemotherapy no hormonal therapy.  She was lost to follow-up.

She was 89 years old when she died in 2013 from causes other than breast cancer.

The daughter thanked me for operating on her mother.

I received a message requesting for Telemedical Consultation.   A patient from Munoz, Nueva Ecija.

I was happy when I video chatted with Ms. Zenaida Bumanlag, 80 years old, who turned out to be a patient whom I did a modified radical mastectomy in 2020 (20 years ago). She was lost to follow-up soon after my operation.  She was proud to recall ad to say she took only Rexidol for a few days after the operation – not painful. She was also proud to say that she did not take any antibiotics as I did not prescribe and there was no infection postoperative.   She did not have any additional postop anti-cancer treatment.

For her present consult, she was complaining of watery discharge from her chest areas which turned out to be non-specific, not related to her breast cancer.

I did a physical examination on her.  Result: No clinical evidence of breast cancer recurrence.

She was happy of this diagnosis.

We both thank God for this long remission (20 years without additional cancer treatment).

She consented for me to include her in my ROJoson Cancer Survivor Registry so as to inspire other people.  She is No. 149th in the Registry.
