History of ROJoson Patient Empowerment Program
I have a Patient Empowerment Program since I started my private practice in 1982 when I would include health education (restoration and maintenance of health).
I reinforced it in 1989 or 1990 when I started my Education on Health Development in the Philippines Program and when I started blogging.

I reinforced it more in 2011 when I started using Facebook in addition to blogging.
Starting 2019, I will reinforce it further by making a structured learning program (probably though an online collaborative and interactive learning). [Probably to start December 2019 or January 2020 - ROJoson OCIL on Patient Empowerment]
ROJoson Reasons for Patient Empowerment Program
Medicine is an inexact science which contributes to a lot of uncertainties and confusions in physicians' management and patients' decision-making on what to do for their health.
The treatment of a patient is dependent on the mind-set of the physician, the mind-set of the patient, and the mind-set of the patient’s relatives. Although in the end, it will be the patients who should be deciding, a lot of times they are influenced by the mind-set of the physicians. Physicians have variable mind-sets.
It is practically impossible to have a uniformity of mindset of the physicians (everywhere, anywhere, all over the country, all over the world).because of different medical education systems (and teaching), different values and cultures, etc.
To be patient-centered, to save the patients from the confusing management of physicians, one has to resort to patient empowerment program, the goal of which is to develop a process through which patients or people are enabled to gain greater control over decisions and actions affecting their health (WHO).
Four components have been reported as being fundamental to the process of patient empowerment: 1) understanding by the patient of his/her role; 2) acquisition by patients of sufficient knowledge to be able to engage with their healthcare provider; 3) patient skills; and 4) the presence of a facilitating environment. Based on these four components, empowerment can be defined as:
A process in which patients understand their role, are given the knowledge and skills by their health-care provider to perform a task in an environment that recognizes community and cultural differences and encourages patient participation.

There will be better patient-management outcomes in the long run with patient empowerment program compared to just passive participation or involvement of the patient while the physicians still dictate and call the shots.
ROJoson's Main Strategies:
1. Educate the patients on rational and cost-effective patient management process so that they know how to engage with their physicians when the latter are consulted.
2. Educate the patients on skills they can perform to promote and to restore their health.
3. Educate the patients on problem-based learning in health and illness.
4. Educate the patients on "processes" of management and not simply memorizing management guidelines.
