Robert began learning the violin at a young age, and now enjoys a busy freelance career as an orchestral, chamber and solo player.
Robert's work as a freelance orchestral player has included performances with the Orchestra of Opera North in concerts at Leeds, Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Halls, and with Northern Ballet Sinfonia, Mowbray Orchestra, Orchestra D'Amici, York Opera, York Musical Society, York Guildhall Orchestra, Leeds Baroque, and the Sinfonia of Leeds.
Robert's performances as a concerto soloist have included the violin concertos by Bruch and Mendelssohn.
He frequently performs chamber music in recital, including with his wife, pianist Helen Jones. They have performed at venues in London, Birmingham, York, Leeds, Ripon and Lichfield, in programmes including major violin sonatas by Beethoven, Brahms, Elgar and Debussy. Other chamber music engagements have included Trio Rosalba, the Nero Quartet, and the Green Lane Ensemble String Trio.
Robert was awarded a music scholarship to King's School Worcester, a choral exhibition to Christ's College Cambridge, and a postgraduate scholarship to Leeds University, before continuing his studies in violin at Birmingham Conservatoire. He has been a private student of professional violinists including Peter Thomas, David Gregory, and David Greed. Robert holds the LRSM Music Performance Diploma in Violin with Distinction, as well as the DipABRSM Music Performance Diploma, and the TCL Performer's Certificate.
