Who can join the program?
Any youth who enjoys playing musical instruments used in orchestral music and singers!
Why ensemble music?
When playing in an ensemble situation, very often the music on the page looks very easy to students who have been learning how to read music, how to play the instrument; however, playing the same line of music with other people could be a challenge, considering bowing, phrasing, tempo, dynamic, and rhythm, while listening to other people playing different lines of music!
This experience forces the student musician not only to concentrate on his or her part, but also to blend in with others as a harmony, or accompany other parts, or to be a solo part against the ensemble accompaniment.
Just like in sports, in order to be successful in ensemble music, one is required not only to know his or her part, but also to have good listening skills, willingness to work together with others, and confidence to perform in public. The skills that children gain from ensemble performances will be great addition to them as they grow. We are fortunate to have opportunity to perform two concerts annually at the beautiful sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church.
