Teaching Practice
Richard Allen first began teaching Drawing and Painting and also Picture Framing in 1984.
He has a wide knowledge of Drawing and Painting techniques both Traditional and Modern which he has gained from his extensive studies of the History of Art. this has enabled him to help many students to develop their own style of painting.
From this knowledge of painting techniques, he has become a specialist in teaching the process of mixing colours and Impressionist painting, creating images with just brushstrokes.
Over the past decades his skills have diversified to delivering the Design Practice Modules for City and Guilds to various craft students including Lacemakers and Machine Knitters.
During the 1990’s he delivered many courses in Drawing and Painting and also Digital Photography to students with Special Needs organised byTresham Institute.
In 2005 He took up a full-time teaching post at Moulton College delivering a National Diploma in Interior Design and this lead to him becoming Course Manager for a Degree course in Interior design delivered jointly with the University of Northampton.
In 2009, I was awarded an “Exceptional Contribution to the College”, the Citation stated:
“Richard has both inspired and challenged Interior Design students through a range of ‘live’ projects that he has developed in conjunction with industrial partners. Through this innovative and collaborative approach he has helped raise the quality of design programmes, which is in turn reflected by much higher levels of student satisfaction, retention and achievement.”
In 2015 Richard decided to retired from full-time teaching in order to develop his own painting practice.
