Throughout his career Richard Allen has been involved in two complementary activities:
Since 1979 Practising Artist. Exhibited widely, both in East Anglia and in London.
Since 1984 Tutor in Painting and Interior design offering courses and short residential courses.
Biography
1957
Born 14 May, in Northamptonshire.
1975-76
Studied at Northampton College of Art (Foundation Year)
1976-79
Studied at Falmouth College of Art. Degree Course in Fine Art (Painting) awarded Bachelor of Art with second class Honours (1st Division).
1983
One man show at Church Gallery, Church of the Annunciation, Bryanston Street, London.
1984
Exhibits one man shows at Leigh Gallery, 17 Leigh Street, London, until 1996.
1987
One man show at Ryon Hill Gallery, Stratford-upon-Avon.
1989-91
Studied for Certificate in Continuing Education (Part-Time) University of Leicester. Awarded Distinction.
1990
One man show at Lamport Hall, 1990.
1994
Exhibits in Northampton Town and County Annual Exhibition
1995
Commissioned by Northamptonshire association for the Blind to celebrate their Centenary Year.
Exhibits in Northamptonshire Watercolour Group Annual Exhibition 1995-2001.
1996
Awarded the first prize Wellingborough Open Art Competition.
2002
Elected to the Council of Northampton Town and County Art Society.
2005
Full-Time Lecturer in Interior Design at Moulton College.
2006
Consulted by Lamport Hall on the redecoration of their Dining Room and the rehang of paintings.
2007
Appointed Course Manager HND/BA Interior Design, Moulton College
2009
Awarded “Exceptional Contribution to the College” by developing ‘live’ projects in conjunction with industrial partners.
2013
“Leopard condemned to sea bathe” and “Model for a surrealist object by the sea” were both acquired by the Alfred East Art Gallery for their permanent collection in 2013. This was part of the Gallery’s Centenary Celebration donations requests programme.
2014
Appointed Associate Lecturer in Interior Design, University of Northampton.
2015
Commissioned by Wicksteed Park on various Design Projects.
Awarded Certificate of Recognition Artist of theYear 2015 by Aspire Magazine
Invited to be Guest Artist for Exhibition "Gesamkunstwerk" at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh House, 78 Derngate, Northampton from October to December.
2016
Collaborated with the Alfred East Art Gallery for the exhibition ”Comics Unstripped” for which a Mural was produced
Awarded The Most Innovative Work Prize by University of Northampton for “The Face at the Window: Leonardo Gothic”.
2017
”Comics Unstripped” awarded Best Exhibition by Northamptonshire Heritage Forum Awards.
