“Life is difficult.” With that simple phrase M. Scott Peck began his blockbuster best-seller, The Road Less Travelled. Life is difficult. Sometimes. That is true for individuals, for families, for congregations. Just to acknowledge that is so liberating, because to acknowledge and accept difficulty is the first step towards transcending that difficulty. Life is difficult. To transcend those difficulties is not to pretend they didn’t happen. It is to acknowledge and to learn from the difficulties. And you can do that because of another simple truth. People are resilient. Families are resilient. Congregations are resilient.
