HOWELL FAMILY HISTORY

Descendants of Thomas Howell

Generation No. 1

1. THOMAS HOWELL was born Abt. 1767 in PA??, and died Abt. 1825.  He married ANNIE Abt. 1790.  She was born Abt. 1767, and died October 26, 1867 in Monroe County Ohio.

Thomas Howell is shown in Washington County, Ohio in 1800 census records in Newport Township which formed parted of Monroe County in 1813.  Deeds show Thomas Howell selling land to Charles Wells of Tyler County, VA in frac S. 19,T.3, R.3, recorded November 26, 1823.  Fractional sections were along the Ohio River.  In 1830 Ann Howell is shown in the Salem Township as the head of the family.  the court of Common Pleas, at the September term, 1825 shows that the last will of Thomas Howell was brought to court, with Anna Howell and aaron Howell as executors, so by puting all these pieces together we know that Thomas & Ann Howell were very eaerly settlers in the Monroe County area, he died by September, 1825 and she continued to live 42 years as a widow.  She is burried at Syckes Ridge Cemetery above Clarington, Ohio and has a marker for ANNIE HOWELL, WIFE OF THOMAS, who died October 26, 1867 in her 100th year.  In the 1860 census she is shown living with her daughter Elizabeth married to Ebenezer White. She married Thomas Howell around 1790 and her first son Aaron was born around 1792.  In the 1830 census, she is listed as head of household and she had three sons and one daughter living with her with the possibility that some older children had already married and moved away from home.  In 1825 she and Aaron Howell were listed as executors brought the last will of Thomas Howell to Common Pleas Court at the September term of 1825.

Generation 2

2.  AARON HOWELL (THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1792, and died August 08, 1861 in Monroe County Ohio.  He married MARGARET SLOAN.  She was born Abt. 1792.

Aaron Howell Howell was found in the Center Township Monroe County 1830 and 1850 census.  He is buried at the Goudy Cemetery and headstone indicates he died on August 8, 1861 at age of 69.  His wife's name was Margaret Sloan.  On the 9th of April, 1862, Jacob Kivert and Rhoda his wife, and Charles Kivert and Nancy his wife files a duite demanding partition of property again Margaret Howell, widow of aaron deceased, John Howell, James Howell, Thomas Howell, Harrison Howell, Mary Pasco, elizabeth Yoho and Daniel her husband, Rachel Richner and William her husband, Angeline Kivert and Jacob her husband of Monroe County and Lydia Hayes and John her husband of the State of Virginia.  This Aaron Howell can be placed in Ohio as early as 1818 and it is assumed that he is the son and executor of the estate of Thomas Howell, Sr. along with his mother Ann.

WILLIAM HOWELL (JOHN THOMAS3, ARRON2, THOMAS1)was born April 29, 1853 in Monroe County, Ohio, and died January 31, 1922 in Wetzel County, WV.  He married THEODOSIA PASCO June 06, 1879 in Monroe County, Ohio, daughter of MELISSA PASCO, raised by JOSEPH PASCO and MARY HOWELL (daughter of Aaron Howell and Margaret Sloan).  William Howell married (2) MARGARET HAMILTON (around 1886) daughter of Thomas Hamilton and Barbara Resseger.

WINFIELD F. HOWELL (WILLIAM4, JOHN THOMAS3, AARON2, THOMAS1) was born October 13, 1880 in Monroe County, Ohio, and died May 18, 1962.  He married BERTHA ALVERTA BROCK October 22, 1905 in Wetzel County, WV1, daughter of JACOB BROCK and HANNAH HAWKINS.

Winfred J. Howell (Winfield5, William4, John3, Aaron2, Thomas1) was born August 19, 1912 in Wetzel County, WV, an died March 14, 2005.  He married Hazel Freda Mason on August 8, 1936 in Wetzel County, WV, daughter of Jacob Henry Mason and Stella Francis Taylor.
