Gettysburg Remembrance Day Route of March

The head of the parade will form up on Lefever Street, towards Confederate Avenue, the parade will proceed on East Confederate Avenue, Left onto Middle Street, down to Baltimore Street, Left onto Baltimore Street, continuing down Baltimore Street until the parade reaches Steinwehr Avenue, slight right on Steinwehr Avenue until the Parade reaches the Gettysburg National Park entrance opposite General Pickett’s Buffet, (Cyclorama Drive) where the parade will turn left into the park and immediately dispersing from there. All horses and carriages are to proceed to the right and disperse down Long Lane. NO HORSES ARE ALLOWED TO ENTER GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK!

At least one representative from each unit or organization participating in the parade should attend the parade briefing held at 12 Noon. at Unity Park on Lefever Street.

There are a few things that need to be addressed. Please understand that the Gettysburg Police need to shut down various roads to insure our safety. Please make sure to thank them for keeping us and the spectators’ safe. To that end we ask the following:

When marching no more than 6 (six) feet between groups. I have seen gaps in the parade large enough for a tractor trailer to fit. Please close in your ranks. Just so you know the parade is videotaped so we will know who does not follow this rule. If you have to “Double Quick” to close ranks, do it.

All groups are to form up on Lefever Street. DO NOT USE ANY OF THE ALLEY WAYS OR SIDE STREETS. You are to form up on Lefever Street only!

When marching some groups like to march in a Company front. We ask that if you are marching in a Company front that it is no more 14 men wide. The problem is that many times the Company front will extend to the shoulders of the street. Please note that there are spectators that line up on the shoulders to take up pictures. Please keep to the “Black top” only. If not marching in a Company front please stick to a column of fours.

If a parade participant feels threatened by a spectator, protesters, or parade participant they should notify a parade provost marshal or police officer. DO NOT TAKE MATTERS INTO YOUR OWN HANDS.

Caps, powder, ammunition, explosive or incendiary devices shall not be carried by any of the participants in the Remembrance Day Parade.

The use of drugs or alcohol by parade participants is prohibited. Violators will be removed from the parade by police.

Any group or individual failing to obey the orders of the Provost Marshals will be subject to removal from the parade. All Provost Marshals wear a yellow arm band issued by the Sons of Veterans Reserve. Please understand that our job is to keep the parade moving. Over the past couple of parades I have had complaints from my Deputy Provosts about groups failing to obey an order when asked to move. I have asked to Gettysburg Police Department to sound a siren 5 minutes before we are ready to start. When you hear that please get ready to march.

No unit participating in the annual Remembrance Day Parade shall stop in the line of March and allow another unit to enter unless specifically directed to do so by one of the Parade Marshals.

Any Unit may be removed or rejected from participating in the annual Remembrance Day Parade at the discretion of the Parade Marshal and/ or the Deputy Commander of the Sons of Veterans Reserve.
