I went into the "Customize" button and unchecked the Oracle VM VirtualBox Command Line Utilities. Why? Maybe a token/failed attempt to keep the install as "regular user" as possible. As it turned out, I needed to invoke Admin powers anyway. Grrrr.
So I immediately stopped the process, quit everything, then ran a Time Machine backup so that I'd have a checkpoint to revert to, if necessary.
The following list is what got installed. I got this info by running the "uninstall" tool. As I could see, the installer needed to drop in KEXTs, which is the obvious explanation why Admin access was needed for the final installation. I suppose I could have hacked the installer scripts so that I could install almost everything locally...but I got tired, so I let things stand. At least I do have the Time Machine backup from just prior to this installation.
