Its hard to find the 'right' trainer, there is a myriad of pseudo 'professional' trainer qualifications all professing to confer the best expertise.
In summary however I would suggest asking the following questions and then arrange a few trial sessions and see what works best for you prior to committing.
Are you Qualified?
I am a qualified Gym instructor, Personal trainer and Exercise Referral Instructor. Within the scope of my practice I am trained to accept referrals from Doctors and can help people living with long term illness or disability move more and feel better.
Additionally, I am a Specialist Level 4 trainer and work with people who have significant risk as a result of Cardiac Illness (BACPR), Chronic Lung problems including long covid and COPD (BLF), Stroke, Back Pain, Diabetes and Obesity.
I am currently working towards a MSc in Cardiac Health and Rehabiliation at Chester University. I hold an extended Diploma in Health Care (NESCOT), a Certificate in Education and Training (Greenwich University) and a B.Sc.(Hons.) degree in Risk Management (Portsmouth University).
Following examination of my qualifications, experience and professional values CIMSPA have awarded me Chartered Status as a Physical Activity and Health Practitioner.
Do you have the relevant experience for me?
I started my career in the Health and Physical Activity sector working with Marriott Health Clubs in 1992. Subsequently, I have worked in a number of settings, including the disciplined Uniformed Services, working both operationally and as a trainer / instructor.
I have many years experience working within the NHS as an exercise specialist, latterly as part of Kings College Hospital Foundation Trust. My Last NHS post was as the Lead Exercise Specialist (B7) at the Princess Royal Univertisty Hospital cardiology dept.
I provide private personal training through my company Recuperative PT.
Are you professionally recognised and vetted?
I am CHARTERED MEMBER of Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
I am a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science. (BASES)
I am a member of British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR).
I am a member of the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS).
I am enhanced DBS checked and my background government vetted. I can work within schools, colleges, List X and uniformed service settings.
