GENERAL OVERVIEW OF SWEEPS RULES
Golf events will be held every Tuesday and Thursday morning (except holidays) at the Oaks North Golf Course. Consult the weekly schedule on the Website calendar for the game format for the day. To play in the sweeps games, players must be members of SCGA, have an established GHIN Index, and be members of the Oaks North Senior Men's Golf Club. Joining SCGA will automatically include your membership in the Oaks North Senior Men's Golf Club when you select Oaks North as your home club. Guests are always welcome and may play but not participate in sweeps games. Please inform the desk that you are playing as a guest or as a member that has not established a GHIN handicap. Your name must appear on the desk copy of the Membership List to play in the sweeps game for that day. JC membership is a separate option for player/members that offers discounted green fees and several other perks. Please read and fill out the Membership Application on this Website carefully for details.
Currently there are 4 standard games played sequentially: Low Net- Closest to the Pin, Best 9 of 18 holes, Stableford, and Best 9 (side). Additionally, once each quarter there is a Longest Drive contest per flight. These four games are explained in more detail below. There are payouts for three places per flight- A,B,C. Also, there are three payouts , one for each flight, for closest to the pin on Low net game days The computer program-Golf Genius - divides the purse into 3 equal flights. Players with the same index are placed in the same flight. For each flight, players are awarded 50% of the flight purse for first, 30% for second, and 20% for third. Ties share the purse equally by combining the flight payout for the two or more places. In addition, there is a Skins game played the Thursday following each Scramble Tournament . Players are required to pay $5 for participating in the sweeps game for that day in addition to the regular green fee.
On Tuesday mornings please arrive by 7:30 am. Check in with the front desk to pay your green /sweeps fee. Indicate to the desk if you are a JC member, riding or walking and eligible for sweeps. Oaks North Senior Golf Club Members must have joined , completed and entered at least three rounds of golf toward their GHIN Handicap to qualify for sweeps play. After paying your green fee, proceed to the Starter station outside to sign in, show your receipt and be assigned a starting tee hole and group. Every second Tuesday of the month a random card draw is used to determine foursome groupings. This offers members the chance to meet and get to know other players.
On Thursday mornings, members should have previously signed up on the Oaks North Senior Men's Golf Club website. Follow directions carefully online to sign-up for an available time slot. If all slots are filled, type in your name on the waiting list. Not showing up is very inconsiderate. If you are unable to play and you have signed up, please remove your name from the Website sheet and/or call the Oaks North starter desk to inform them that you are not showing up.
Players will be disqualified if their score card is not legible, incomplete, or not signed and attested. On the score card, enter last names and first initials in alphabetical order. It is not necessary to enter GHIN index or flight group. The computer program will divide all players into 3 even flight groups: A, B, C . It is only necessary to calculate your gross score. The computer program-Golf Genius will calculate your game score.

Starting in 2024, the ONSMGC joined the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) and began using the USGA GHIN Handicap System together with Golf Genius software for game scoring and handicap updates. Game scores posted to GHIN update players GHIN Indexes which may vary fromgame to game. The GHIN Index is general measure of a players skill level. For any USGA rated course a player's GHIN index may be applied to determine their Playing Handicap for that course. The USGA has rated the three course combinations of N/E, E/S, S/N, at Oaks North. These ratings are used to determine your playing handicap for our games.
At the end of each round of golf at Oaks North Senior Men's Golf Club, score keepers will enter your scores in the Golf Genius program and you will be notified by e-mail current updates to your GHIN Index. If you play at another USGA rated course, you are expected to enter your own scores using the USGA GHIN App.
A USGA member's GHIN Index may be reviewed and adjusted by the designated Handicap Chairman/Committee of the players "home" club.
