CreativITY & Innovation

One of the few things that I always try to make a priority in my life is by being creative or innovative. Personally, I will try to be different in all things that I do. My family and friends will know this particular trait of mine. This include my teaching style. I like to teach in a more open class environment, where two-way communication between teacher and students are highly nourished. Students are given empowerment to make decisions in completing their assignments (of course with my guidance too) to flourish their creative mind. I believe when they are given more freedom, they will come up with unexpected outcomes.

However, creativity is not easily measured as it is subjective in nature. Well, that is the beauty of it. I give you a recent example of my Operations Seminar Class (A201), This is the final year student class which students need to connect the dot and apply all things they have learned in the Operations Management program. This is the class that links the theory (textbook), practical (industry), and service learning (community engagement) in 1 class. In the normal circumstance, the students need to do 2 group assignments and 1 individual assignment in order to pass and excel in the class. In this class, creativity of students will be assessed through mini video production of their assignments instead of long written report that will be ended in one of my shelves. Additionally, due to COVID 19, their engagement with the community is difficult to be implemented. To maintain the spirit of sharing and transferring their knowledge with the community, their video is posted on social media and marks are given based on the number of views and likes by the audiences.
