Jay, WA0WWW, and I operated as a multi-op, single radio expedition. We spent Saturday in Columbia county, as planned. The location was near Starbuck, WA, the town, not the coffee place. Not the best operating location, but we did manage to collect 88 Qs from the party start to 0330 UTC. 15 m was he place to be.
Sunday we started in Garfield county at the Alpowa Summit rest area on US 12. A much better location. In the one hour we operated from there, we collected 32 Qs where again 15 m was the band to be on. W7G caught us to complete his sweep, aka Full Stringer.
We motored to Asotin county in Clarkston and in an hour we got 40 Qs. Nice views of the Snake River and a cruise ship coming into port.
We spent the final hour in Whitman county on a back road between Pullman, WA and Moscow, ID. That location was good for 35 Qs. No cruise ship, just harvested wheat fields.
Our most frequent customer was N7IR, Gary, in AZ. He got us in all four of our counties on at least two bands in each county. N7EPD, Eric, in Pierce county WA, and N3EG, Earl, in Cowlitz county WA, also got us in all of our counties. A total of 128 operators found us during the party.
We ended with 195 Qs for a claimed score of 35,685. Although 15 m was the band for out of state contacts, 40 m provided the greatest number of QSOs. The band breakdown was
Band QSOs Pts Mults
3.5 4 12 2
7 186 318 30
14 34 182 6
21 51 153 23
Totals 195 585 61
The rig was an ICOM 706 MKIIG at 50 W to a Diamond screwdriver SD-330 antenna mounted on the trail hitch of Jay's Winnebago Travato. We logged with N1MM+.
We thank everyone who contacted us and those who tried, too.
Jay, WA0WWW, and I will be a Washington County Expedition, Multi-operator, Single transmitter (EXP-MOST) entry this year. We will use my call of K7TQ. All of our operations will be CW. Saturday will be in Columbia county. We will try to operate on 10 to 80 m as conditions warrant. On Sunday we will start in Garfield county, move to Asotin county, then finally to Whitman county. Our frequencies will be around those ending in 051 to 052, such as 14051.5. Watch the RBN to see what frequency we are on. You can work us each time we change bands or counties.
Here is a schedule of when we hope to operate.
