Rats! Jay and I had planned to put 26 counties on the air, but we only put 13 on the air. At our supper stop in Barber county we encountered a problem that we could not solve. That eliminated Saturday's remaining three and all of the ten Sunday counties. It was a sad Saturday evening and Sunday.
On the plus side, we did make 533 Qs with 40 mults in the 13 counties we operated in. Twenty meters was the place to be with 474 Qs there but only 59 Qs on 15. Maybe our timing for 15 m was not so good, but we did give it a try in many of the counties.
We had nine customers who made 10 or more Qs. K7SV, Lar, and N5RZ, Gator, caught us in all 13 of our counties. Both of them are frequent entries in my K7TQ CWT logs back home in Idaho. N8II, Jeff, and K9CW, Andy, both missed only one of our counties. Others with ten or more Qs were OM2VL, Laci; VE3YT, Vic; WB9HFK, Mark; K2DFC, Fred; and W8PI, Paul. It is great to have such loyal customers.
Jay and I thank everyone who worked us, there were 213 unique calls, and those who tried, but we didn't get you in the log. We are disappointed that we did not finish out Saturday and did none of Sunday.
Pictures and comments from along the route.
We are parked on the Cheyenne/Sherman county line at the beginning of the party. The first sign over the truck says "Sherman COUNTY LINE." The second one says "ENTERING MOUNTAIN TIME ZONE." I started on 15 m, but it wasn't productive so I switched to 20 m. In the 30 minutes we were there, I collected 62 Qs.
We are now parked on the Greeley/Hamilton county line. The QSO count has risen to 169. Typical flat High Plains country here so our signals are not impeded by mountains. Corn fields to the right and to the left of the truck.
As I sat outside our motel in Pratt after the equipment problem, this thuderhead loomed bright in the evening sky. It tried to alleviate my disappointment, but was only temporarily successful.
Jay, WA0WWW, and I will activate 26 counties in the Kansas QSO Party, August 24 and 25 using the 1x1 call of N0Q. We will be CW only. During the day will will try to be on both 15 and 20 m with excursions to 40 m on frequencies ending in 034, such as 21.034 or 14.034 MHz After our sunset around 0115 (UTC) we will be less on 15 m and more on 20 or 40 m In each county we will try to be active for at least 30 minutes.
You can work us each time we change counties or bands.
Our call of N0Q will be one of three "Q" calls that contribute to the spelling of "QSO Party" using the last letter of the 1x1 calls. Further info.
In addition to the RBN, the KSQP Hub Spotting Page will be a great site to follow us, the other mobiles, and the fixed Kansas stations.
Here are the counties we hope to be in during our morning, afternoon, and evening for both days.
